Lovemeter: The Thermometer for Love
The Measurement of Love is Sacrifice.
Duncan Woode
Love is among the most intense emotions God has given man. It’s a driver and catalyst to many events/occurrences in the lives of people. In this context, we need to understand that if Love – as an emotion – was created by God, then we need to love in the God-way or allow Him to permeate us with His love so we can love likewise. Love is a sharable gift from God to mankind – it’s an emotion that in its origin has been made to make two or more people enjoy. God originally made it so that we share it among ourselves. Unlike other emotions, that isn’t sharable and can be kept/harbored within from the neighbor’s eyes or reach.

John 15:13, “Greater love has no man than this, to lay down one’s life for another.” You realize in both Bible verses there is an act of giving something very precious.
John 3:16b, “that He gave His only begotten Son.”
By implication, then the Measurement of Love is Sacrifice.
What are we willing to do, let go, or go through for Love? The God-Love rides on a divine Adoption and Acceptance because of the Value of the Giving.
What is the meaning of this?
God sees His Giving when He Looks at Me! If He says He loves me, then He will not forget how I was to Him that caused Him to Sacrifice. This is the perfect Love of God for us. He said, I sacrificed not because of what I am giving but because of What I see in you – which is Himself. This is the Love that places value on the Receiver and not the Giver – this is the inspiration of it.
God’s love places value on us than Himself, allowing us to see Gods image through others – this is the very reflection of Gods heart through us unto others. This informs our act of love – Duncan Woode

Reflection
Love, as described in this article, is not merely an emotion but an active, sacrificial expression that reflects God’s nature. Take a moment to reflect on your own understanding of love:
- Are you loving in a way that places value on the receiver, as God does?
- How often do you consider the sacrifices you are willing to make for the sake of others?
- Do you allow God’s love to flow through you, transforming how you view and treat those around you?
True love involves giving and often requires personal sacrifice, whether it’s time, energy, or resources. Reflect on moments in your life where your love has been tested. Did you lean on God to guide and strengthen you, or were you focused on your own capacity to give?
Conclusion
The measurement of love is sacrifice—a truth demonstrated perfectly in God’s love for humanity. Through His ultimate act of giving, He shows us that love is not about what we give but about the value we place on those we love. This divine love calls us to adopt a similar perspective, seeing others through God’s eyes and loving selflessly. By allowing God to teach us how to love, we grow in our ability to reflect His heart to the world. Whether it’s through small daily acts of kindness or significant personal sacrifices, love becomes a gift that brings life, hope, and transformation.
May this understanding inspire you to live out love in a way that places value on the receiver and honors God’s perfect example. As you do, remember that the power of love lies in its ability to bridge divides, heal wounds, and bring people closer to God’s truth.
Kindly share this message to bless others and encourage them to reflect on their own capacity to love sacrificially. Thank you.
