Identify Gifts & Callings – Part 2
Parental Intervention:
Parents play an irreplaceable role in helping to uncover and nurture the unique gifts and callings within their children. Guided by God’s voice, they serve as an inner compass, helping their children discover and fulfill the divine purpose for which they were given.
Moses’ mother, Jochebed, recognized that her child was no ordinary child (Acts 7:20; Heb 11:23). She hid him for three months to protect him from Pharaoh’s decree of death. When it became impossible to hide him any longer, she tactfully placed him in a basket and set it afloat on the Nile. At the same time, she positioned Moses’ sister, Miriam, to watch over him. Through divine orchestration, Moses was returned to Jochebed as his nursing mother, ensuring his connection to his heritage.
Jochebed’s wisdom preserved the calling on Moses’ life, and she instilled in him the ways of his Hebrew lineage, faith in the God of their forefathers, and the hope of God’s promises. These teachings shaped Moses’ moral foundation, enabling him to fulfill his purpose, even as he lived in Pharaoh’s palace.

Rebekah received a Word from the Lord about the destiny of her children (Genesis 25:19-34). Her actions ensured that Isaac’s blessings were pronounced on Jacob, positioning him for his God-ordained assignment. Her discernment and intervention became a compass that guided Jacob into his purpose.

Samuel’s mother, Hannah, dedicated her son to the Lord even before his birth, knowing that he belonged to God (1 Samuel 1:20-28). Her faith and obedience paved the way for Samuel to hear God’s voice and walk in his prophetic calling.
Samson’s parents received clear instructions about his life and calling (Judges 13). They were told of the do’s and don’ts for raising him, ensuring that Samson’s divine purpose was preserved.
Reflection
These biblical accounts remind us that parents play a critical role in identifying, nurturing, and safeguarding the gifts and callings in their children. Through faith, wisdom, and divine guidance, they serve as the first compass, directing their children toward the fulfillment of God’s purpose for their lives.
Conclusion
Parents are divinely positioned to play a pivotal role in shaping the lives of their children, helping them discover and fulfill God’s purpose. Through faith, wisdom, and obedience to God’s guidance, parents can nurture the gifts and callings within their children, just as seen in the lives of Moses, Samuel, Samson, and Jacob.
By being sensitive to God’s leading, instilling moral and spiritual foundations, and providing support and direction, parents serve as the first compass, guiding their children toward their God-ordained destinies. These biblical examples remind us of the profound impact of parental intervention in preserving and nurturing the purposes of God in the next generation.
May every parent embrace this role with intentionality, trusting in God’s grace to raise children who will walk boldly in their divine calling.
